Antique Allis Chalmers Tractor: AC 220

[Allis Chalmers 220 Parts]     [Return to the Shed]

Production of this tractor began on March 17, 1969 with Serial Number 1004. It was the first of what was to be known as the "Landhandler". It was the AC's largest wheel tractor at that time, almost 1500 pounds heavier than the D21 Series II.

  • This was a wonderfully powerful tractor for its day. I drove one for my youngest brother disking ahead of planter. He had two XT-190's that I had driven; I was most proud when he had me working with this tractor. Today there is a new generation of tractors and farmers! We just keep getting bigger and biger....makes me think of the dinosaurs or pehaps the huge steam power engines of l00 years ago..........

It sure was a power house and I loved every minute of it.....I was an elementary Principal at the time living near Belvidere, Illinois, where I worked summers as a field man for Green Giant...they had Oliver equipment....however, I sure enjoyed the weakends and after school hours on that new 220 my brother purchased in 1970 or 71! He also had three XT-190's...but, the 220 was a real 'landhandler'!
