charles evans wrote on Monday, July 19, 2004 (PDT):I know where their are two iron horses.One is in kanab Utah and the other is in Kanarraville Utah.The one in Kanab is owned by Theo McAllester and the one in kanarraville is owned by Tom Pugh.Both are in excellent working order.

Craig in Illinois wrote on Friday, February 27, 2004 (PST):There is a fella here in central Illinois from Peoria that has a completely restored Powerhorse. He has it beautifully restored, and pulls a four seater wagon. I ran into him at a tractor show last September 2003, in Mapleton ILL. He brought it to the show and pulled him and his wife around the park a couple of times. It was an Allis Chalmers tractor engine that powered it. The exact engine that is in a B or a C. That is the part that caught my attention. It is sure a neat set-up.

My dad had a Samson M-18 up until about 1938. Should have dumped it earlier. A traactor with no brakes was not suitable for hilly PA.

John B........ wrote on Saturday, August 10, 2002 (PDT):The "Iron Horse" was produced at the Sampson plant in janesville wisconsin. and days ahead of the unveiling of the new line of tractor, it had rained a bunch, and the leather drive belts had shrunk up so bad that once the tractors were started for the show, the operator was unable to manover the machine and it fliped over on the city hall steps. shortly after, the iron horse's days were short. There are a few of these rare machines around, Iowa, etc, I have some very rare Sampson items, if any one is interested........ J.B.

anders white wrote on Sunday, February 17, 2002 (PST):recently i was watching a very fasinating tv station RFDTV on statelite dish they had a show one of many on antique tractors and there were 2 of those old wheel horses in action one with the orignal cart. i belive that the tractor show was from the uppermid west area . keep up the great work .Anders White age63

I beleive sean is right, these type of tractors were intorduced farmer to the tracto and to slowly replace horse drawen equipment. I've seen a very similar one not to long ago. It was a diffenent make but also steered with reins. I beleive it was called a "PowerHorse" but I'm not sure who made it. If anyone knows who makes it please let me know.

Sean Kelly wrote on Monday, October 02, 2000 (PDT):What a small world! The guy above, Trevor Oester, just happens to be my cousin. Just like my cousin said, grandpa owns one of the only 2 ironhorses left. I think Trevor was kind of wrong in some parts so I'll fill ya in. It was not illegal to use horse drawn farm equipment. Instead the Ironhorse was made to introduce farmers to mechanical farming. Its idea was to eventually replace the horse. The machine was driven just like a horse with reins while the farmer walked behind it next to the plow. The problem with it was it was kind of back heavy and when a farmer went up a hill it would tip over backwards and crush them. During WWI and WWII they were all melted down for use in the Army. Currently there are only 2 known Ironhorses, one which is missing parts and will never run again and the other (which my great grandpa has) is complete and running like brand new. He currently has it in storage and if I'm not mistaken it will eventually be on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. The picture above is the exact tractor that my great grandfather owns and was probably taken at the Steam and Tractor show in Oregon State.

Trevor Oester wrote on Saturday, April 24, 1999 (PDT):holy smokes, this is my grandpas tractor. my grandpa is 87 and lives in Scapoose oregon. This picture was taken at the annual Antique Powerland show. I think that it is powered by a Chevy 454, and is in running condition. M grandpa purchased it at a yard sale, or something of that nature, and restord it. he told me that there is only like 2 others that he knows about. It was built when it was illegal to use horse drawn farm equipment, so you walk behind and steer with reins. it does have a little buggy to go with it to.
