I have it now with many of the toys, including the half tracks, loader, cab, Navy bean puller, and buckets for the Dearborn loader.

  • Hi. I am from Quebec-Canada the home province of J. Armand Bombardier who invented this device. In his brief description Bob is right and here are two links that will lead you to the invention itself. The first one show you the invention in motion while the second gives drawings of the patent itself (responds to Nathan's question). The invention at work www.fjab.qc.ca/en/content/jab/biographie1949_1958.htm The invention itsef ; www.fjab.qc.ca/en/content/jab/brevets2.htm As a kid I saw many of these rigs on farmer' tractors and wood yard hauling in winter. I have a 9N and in process to buy one. Have fun! Valley

  • My father had a 1948 8n with a set of half tracks for it. This tractor was almost impossible to get stuck and when you did it was almost impossible to get it removed. He would this to do spring plowing, cleaning the barn yard out in the winter and most of all snow removal. I was glad to see this picture due the fact that no one I know has ever head of or seen half tracks for a tractor.

  • I pull logs every winter with my 8N with Blackhawk (ARPS Corp.)halftrack. It works remarkably well-more traction, even in deep snow, than tires on dirt. It steers quite well using the brakes to assist and doesn't place much drag on the system. I'm looking for more info, manuals etc on the system.
Nathan wrote on Thursday, November 04, 1999 (PST):
  • I would really, really like to add that system (ARPS halftrack)to my tractor.! I currently have landscaping tread a 16.5L-16.1 tires on the rear. And I HATE them. but they are easy on the yard grass, but lousy on snow, sand, and everyplace else that you need a little traction. So if anyone can send me plans or a source, that I'll motifiy to fit my tractor that would be very greatful.

Bob wrote on Sunday, August 08, 1999 (PDT):
  • It appears that this would be a fairly easy conversion to make (from the pictures anyway) The track is near identical to the tracks they use on "Bombadeer" snow rigs. People use them too convert vans to snow machines to haul fishermen on Lake of the woods, Minnesota. They are made from flat conveyor belt and "cleats". add a front axle and some matching rims and you have a good replica.
